I was saddened to learn that Robin Williams, an actor who made me and millions around the world laugh uncontrollably, died in an apparent suicide. He’d battled drug and alcohol abuse and ultimately depression for many years. How could a man who was able to make so many others happy and laugh be so unhappy with his own life? We might never know the answer. Ironically, yesterday was also the one year anniversary of my alcohol-free life. I have a post scheduled for tomorrow about it…
Last night we received our homecoming photos and they made me happy, happy, happy. They served as a reminder to love one another deeply. To never take a moment for granted. To love yourself and your life. And if you’re feeling like love isn’t enough or you can’t find it, it’s okay to ask for help. It’s more than okay. Because love is (always) there. It can be found and and it will help.
“Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion’s starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don’t see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often, it’s not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it’s always there – fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge – they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I’ve got a sneaky feeling you’ll find that love actually is all around.” — Love Actually
