A Weekend in My Life as a Balloon

I couldn’t make it to one of my best friends/sorority sisters’ bachelorette weekend back at our alma mater. I was sad to be missing out but was sure to send a little present to still have a small part.

The hotel they all stayed at was great and made the cutest little balloon bunch to go with a bottle of wine:

Little did I know my friends would make me feel a lot more involved with their creativity by pretending I was the big balloon!

I’m so grateful I have such thoughtful friends. Receiving texts throughout the weekend meant more to me than they know.

MDW 2015

I know it’s already almost the weekend again (YAY!) but this past weekend was pretty much my favorite weekend in as long as I can remember. My brother and cousin were in town. We explored a bit of Chicago and spent a night in Lake Geneva, WI, where we also went boating.

My happiness level was immeasurable and I miss them already. We spent the last night relaxing and watching our wedding video together since no one but T and I have seen it.

As much as I love love love alone time with my husband, family time was much needed so this weekend was the perfect treat.

Memorial Day

I am forever thankful to the men and women who have died while serving our country. They have paid the ultimate sacrifice and deserve more than a day to remember them. 

I also understand how others could be confused by all the military holidays and want to thank all members–past, present, living, or dead–for their service. I didn’t do so because I’ve educated myself on the differences. But does that mean I should get annoyed or upset at others who don’t know? Or perhaps they do know and still want to thank all veterans. 

Yesterday, I told my family that it wasn’t a day to wish someone a “Happy Memorial Day” because it wasn’t supposed to be happy. I even liked a status that read sarcastically to inform people of the difference between Memorial and Veterans Day. I felt a tinge of guilt as I sun bathed during the weekend and was happy to be having a long weekend. 

Then my husband read me a status this morning posted by a veteran about not wanting to be thanked yesterday and I changed my mind about it all. 

I get it. Thanking veterans is what Veteran’s Day is for. But would the founders and all those memorialized want the negativity surrounding the debate?

People often observe and/or celebrate holidays in ways not originally intended and it’s okay. Take Christmas, my favorite holiday ever ever ever, and how commercialized it’s become. How many people truly celebrate it as Jesus’ birthday? 

I’m not trying to stir debate or argue–I do enough of that as an attorney! I just think thanking all veterans is better than thanking none.🇺🇸

Bicyclin’ with Bae

As I told you earlier this week, last Saturday marked six months of marriage for Tim and me.  How did we celebrate? By hopping out of bed and onto bikes! It was must first time riding a bicycle in as long as I can remember–I’m serious. I’m thinking the last time was during early junior high but I’m not sure. 
Let me tell you guys and gals — it was SO much fun! I almost had a few mishaps but thankfully no pedestrians were harmed during my ride. And I escaped unscathed. We then finished the day at the beach. It’s our happy place and having it just a block away is a blessing. (On a slightly unrelated note: the leggings are now my favorite things ever. I’d wanted a similar pair from Lululemon and walked into the store a couple times but could not bring myself or justify to my husband spending $108 on leggings. Thank for Forever21 for this steal!)
Sunday was spent studying and doing school work. We then went out to dinner at a newer spot in our neighborhood.  I had my first chicken and waffles experience: chicken in waffle batter with spicy maple dipping sauce. Can you say AMAZINGGGGG? We are definitely going back to check out their brunch soon. 
Time and time again we say how happy we are to be living our newlywed life in such a bustling–but not overwhelming–city. We’re so excited to have my brother and cousin here this long weekend for some Midwestern fun!
