While the weather here in September did not shift to typical fall weather, I do think I have “Septembered” in ways similar to which Addie wrote about. August was a bright turned dark turned bright month. September brought more brightness. But the darkness crept in, most times at the most unexpected moments. Sometimes at very expected moments. But I knew the darkness had nothing to do with me as a person but rather with life and its lessons. And I always held strong to my steadfast belief that it would get better, and better it has gotten.
“Of course, the world is spinning, always changing, and you know now that the Darkness is not really about you. It’s not a sign that you prayers aren’t strong enough, your Bible reading is a little too lax, your devotion to God is spread too thin. This is about orbit. About angle. About distance from the sun. And listen Love, change takes time . . . Deep down you know all this will be beautiful.”
Liebster = Beloved
2. Be realistic, where do you see yourself in a few years? (a few could be 2, 10, 20, whatever)
I haven’t really a clue. But I hope to still be happy, healthy and living a life full of love with T. And thriving in a career I enjoy would be nice, too.
3. What is the one thing that can instantly make you happy, like turn your whole day around?
Love. Witnessing it, feeling it, giving it.
4. What is the news headline you’re following most closely lately?
Hmm probably the possible government shutdown
5. If the concept of a bank account/bills didn’t exist, what would you buy yourself?
A penthouse in Manhattan and/or a mansion in Miami. Maybe a private jet that I can travel the world in.
6. Chocolate, vanilla, or twist?
CHOCOLATE.
7. How do you relax? Share your favorite tip…
Grab a cup of coffee or hot chocolate (my go-to Christmastime drink) and curl up with a good read or watch a movie. Probably with a blanket.
8. Tell me three things you love about being you. (no skimping, THREE!)
One: My Latina heritage
Two: My big heart
Three: a) My loving family – does that count? ‘Cause they’re the bomb diggity and I’m lucky to call them mine. If it doesn’t though, then b) My curves – usually lol
9. White or Red wine? Or is liquor quicker?
None of the above. I am proud to say I have chosen not to drink anymore and I feel much healthier because of it!
10. What makes you feel most accomplished, or what do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment so far?
This is a bit hard. I think my biggest accomplishment has been graduating from Penn State with honors, and from a top NYC law school and being employed by one of my top choices upon graduation. What’s made me feel most accomplished is having been asked to speak at a college orientation event my brother attended. Perhaps more than that, though, is simply hearing from others that my family, especially little brother (it’s more expected from parents and significant other I think lol), speaks about me a lot to them.
11. What inspired you to start blogging?
Honestly, the loneliness I was feeling while Timmy was deployed last year. But I didn’t actively blog until this January when I decided to blog more regularly.
I nominate all of my readers for this award because you’re all the best! Have a belove-ly weekend!

Mesothelioma Awareness
This post is sponsored by MesotheliomaLawyerCenter.org. All opinions are my own.
Tomorrow is Mesothelioma Awareness Day. Did you know US veterans and military members are the most at risk for developing mesothelioma cancer?
Tomorrow is Mesothelioma Awareness Day. Did you know US veterans and military members are the most at risk for developing mesothelioma cancer?
I am helping Emily Walsh, Community Outreach Director for the Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance, spread awareness by sharing an article that she wrote. You can read the article here. It contains information regarding 8 important facts about mesothelioma.
1. Mesothelioma is caused by asbestos exposure.
2. No amount of exposure is safe.
3. Asbestos was once used in more than 3,000 consumer products.
4. It can be found in many older homes, schools, factories, and commercial buildings.
5. Asbestos exposure is still the LEADING CAUSE of occupational cancer in the US.
6. United States Veterans are at the greatest risk.
7. Asbestos is still not banned in the US.
8. Mesothelioma can be caused by secondary exposure.
Because of my connection to the military community, I thought my readers would find this information valuable.
The key to saving lives starts with raising awareness!
A Good Human Being >
Last week, I chatted with a classmate who said she had been wondering how I was able to be here in Hawaii for so long and not be working. I responding that I was essentially enjoying life before my prospective job.
As nice as it sounds, though, sometimes I feel like I’m currently not doing enough as the only unemployed-ish one of my friends and as I see peers starting their lawyer jobs and whatnot.
But I’ve done what I could and had to do and I’m going to make the most of my time now – I’d like to think I deserve it and maybe even owe it to myself after the past 3 years. Then, I saw this article by Olivia Wilde in my friend Karintha’s post. And it, especially #1: “DON’T freak out about all the brilliant people who accomplished more than you by 30”, struck a chord. Olivia speaks of the importance of and the unsurmountable success — above all else — that is being a good human being.
So, sure, I might not be think I am accomplishing as much as others right now, but I try everyday to be a good daughter, sister, friend, girlfriend, and person. To be a good human being. And I’m coincidentally enjoying my life along the way.
My time here was much needed. These days, I feel more at peace. Like a more complete person. A better version of myself. I can’t exactly explain it but good morning and good night kisses from T, my solo kitchen experiments, and beach days by the Pacific Ocean (just to name a few things) have simply been so calming and good for my soul.
It’s all making me even more capable of being a good human being.
And that’s better than any other accomplishment.
