No More Hide and Seek with our Belongings

S has successfully hidden remotes in his stroller bin and play pen, and a credit card in a box. We have had to be mindful when he has had his hands on our keys and cell phones. Luckily, now he won’t be able to successfully hide anything, such my electronics, because I’ve got a Tile to locate them if he does put them somewhere! 

Now, with Tile, I’ve joined a vast community that can help me find my things fast. It’s important to note that Tile isn’t just for keys and wallets — it’s for any item that you never want to lose, like a bike, a pair of skis, or a child’s favorite toy.

The way it works is simple:
  • Find lost items with your phone. If your Tile is within the 100-foot Bluetooth range, it will play a loud tune until you find it.
  • Can’t find your phone? Double press your Tiles to make it ring, even if it’s on silent.

The Guilt of all Mom Guilt

“The joys of motherhood,” she commented. “I feel like a failure,” I responded. And so commenced my hours-long waterworks. 


When I was pregnant, other moms told me about birth and about maternal instincts.   I read about postpartum depression and about how parenthood changes a marriage. 

What I didn’t hear or read much, if anything, about was mom guilt. This feeling of falling short of my motherhood responsibilities. Of failing my child. Of not being good enough or saavy enough, “green” enough, energetic enough. Of not being present enough, of not protecting him enough. 

Recently, the worst guilt of all mom guilt I have yet to feel crept in. (I alluded to this on my Instagram.) I felt badly. I felt sad. I felt disappointment in myself. I felt the most unworthy to be S’ mom as I ever have. 
Other moms in my life, and even friends who aren’t moms, reassured me I’m still a good mom. Things happen. It wouldn’t be a first (though I really hope it is). It wasn’t my fault. 

As much as hearing those things helped, it took/takes time to be okay with myself. To forgive myself. 

This might all sound dramatic but it’s how I felt. To be frank, I’m hard on myself–probably more than I should be. I always have been. If I didn’t get over a 90 on a test, I’d be upset. If I was at risk of not making the Dean’s List, I’d panic. When I thought I wouldn’t get into law school, I cried. Ultimately, all of those things worked out, though. 

Motherhood has presented challenges I don’t always know how to solve and questions I don’t always know the answers to. I feel unsure a lot more than I’d like to admit. But I also am much more confident in my ability to be a good mom to my child than I ever thought I would be in such a short amount of time. My son and I have learned so much together over these 16 months — together with my husband, his dad, we’ve gotten into our own rhythm and we’re figuring everything out. 

Yet even so, sometimes that dreaded mom guilt still appears. And while I know it will probably be back, I am always more than happy when it goes away each time. 

Fall 2017 Family Photos

Fall is one of my favorite times of year — the Christmas season takes the cake, followed by summer but fall is up there. As the season approached, I knew I wanted to get family photos done. We did not get professional newborn photos of Sebastian so I really wanted to get some professional photos of him and of us three. 

Tremont Photography took such amazing photos. And we had fun during the shoot! He was so patient with S and his wife was so helpful. You can’t really ask for more or any better when it comes to a family photo shoot, especially because your time is so limited to get good shots before your little one is completely over photo taking.

Our Halloween that Wasn’t + What it Taught Me

On Halloween, I woke up at 3:45AM  on two hours of sleep to get ready to head to the airport for our 6AM flight. Due to our tardiness, confusion returning our rental car, long Spirit and TSA lines, we MISSED the flight and therefore missed out on some birthday and Halloween festivities. 

We were able to get on an afternoon flight but that meant none of us dressed up, S didn’t go trick or treating, and I didn’t get to pull off my Golden B-day plans I had for my husband.

I selfishly spent most of the day upset about our circumstances. And then after we boarded our flight, to my surprise, the birthday boy my husband himself told me about candy he bought so Seb could trick or treat on the plane (Spirit wouldnt let him– so instead Seb handed candy out to passengers as they deplaned). 

I quickly realized Halloween isn’t about dressing up. And even Tim doesn’t care about a potentially missed cake and decor so why should I? It’s simply about being together on his birthday/favorite holiday and celebrating in whichever way we can, especially on a day like that day when such a scary, bad thing happened in our city. 

Being together and being okay is the most important thing of all. 

To my husband, I LOVE you. For being able to see the bigger picture, for being such a loving–and understanding– husband, for being the best dad Sebastian could ever have, and for just being you.
