I’m not sure if it was the gloomy weather outside, or just an off day, but recently I was feeling unfulfilled. I found myself feeling like I was in a slump, questioning my professional life choices. It was not the first time and it surely will not be the last. While I don’t like feeling that way, I do think it’s quite normal.
I think it’s very important to think about your situation and why you’re feeling that way. You don’t want to find yourself feeling this way for longer than what is necessary and/or healthy.
These are the methods I use to cope when I find myself in a “slump”:
Ask yourself what you think got you to feeling this way. It can be a multitude of reasons: overanalyzing, the weather, hunger, sleepiness, boredom, complacency, a bad day at work, lack of self care, etc.
Find a temporary way to achieve satisfaction/ happiness. It can be listening to music, working out, or momentarily stepping away from the situation. Whatever makes you happy–that’s not destructive– would be good to do.
Think of solutions to not feel like this again (anytime soon, anyway). This can mean anything from a move, to a change of job, a different group of friends, a break-up, or a vacation.
Keep everything in perspective. A few bad minutes or one bad day will not last forever. It’s a bad moment/ hour/ day, not a bad life.
