My first memory of my hair is me wanting it to be like Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s short straight hair. The issue was my hair is thick and not straight. Needless to say, I never really achieved their hair when I was younger.
When I was a teen, however, I did begin straightening it and eventually achieved that look I was going for. And when I say straightened it, I mean I even used a clothes iron to try to get it to be as “flat” as possible. I did not realize that the heat was bad for my hair, and that over time, my waves would become less voluminous. Most of all, it makes me sad to think about how much I disliked my natural hair.
It was not until my mid- 20’s when I was in law school, and therefore very busy, that I finally started embracing my natural hair. I also started paying more attention to what hair care products I was using and began using products free of harsh chemicals like Hair Food Coconut Milk & Chai Spice Nourishing Shampoo; Hair Food Avocado & Argan Oil Hair Mask; and Hair Food Coconut Milk & Chai Spice Nourishing Conditioner.
Hair Food’s mission is simple: nourish your hair like you nourish your body. What we put onto our hair and on the outside of our body matters, too. How we treat our hair also makes a difference. That is why I want to share with you how to get natural waves without heat. This hair care routine at home is quick and simple.
Step 1: Wet hair and wash with Hair Food Coconut Milk & Chai Spice Nourishing Shampoo. Rinse.
Step 2: Work Hair Food Avocado & Argan Oil Hair Mask through wet hair, starting at mid shaft. Leave it in for 3-5 minutes. Detangle hair with a comb. Rinse the hair mask out.
Step 3: Lather hair with Hair Food Coconut Milk & Chai Spice Nourishing Conditioner. Detangle in shower. Rinse.
Step 4: Towel dry your hair until it is just damp. Feel free to lather in Hair Food Coconut Nourishing Hair Oil or Hair Food Avocado & Argan Oil Smoothing Hair Oil if your hair needs extra nourishment to dry to smooth hair or to stop frizzy hair after washing.
Step 5: Comb your hair, part it, and place in a tight low ponytail.
Step 6: Air dry hair.
Step 7: When hair is dry, let the ponytail out. Lightly pass fingers through your hair to create some volume.
You’re all done!
