It means opening presents (from extended family) at midnight, delicious food, family games, cookies and milk, watching the Disney Christmas Parade on TV, gingerbread, Secret Santa. It means family and friend time. It’s my favorite time of year spent with my favorite people.
We wish we were able to stay for New Year’s Eve …but life summons and Chicago is home right now so it’ll be nice to ring in 2015 here.
Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!
That Time We Surprised Everyone by Going to PR
This Thursday, I’m throwing it back to our weekend in Puerto Rico.
My cousin who was my MOH is an only child so we were pretty much raised as sisters. Same toys, matching outfits — the whole nine. She went above and beyond for Tim and I, throwing us a beautiful wedding shower and helping with planning.
We knew when we got invited to go to Puerto Rico for her birthday and college graduation celebration, we’d have to find a way to go. We originally thought it’d be too much to swing since our wedding and honeymoon were less than three weeks ago! But we figured it out–and decided to make it a surprise.
Now, I’m horrible with surprises but Tim helped me not spill the beans a few times. The only family member who knew was my dad because we needed help with dates. Since my mom is the planner, my dad didn’t know much else. So when Trish came to visit us for Thanksgiving, Tim played detective and asked her a few questions. We thought we were on the same flight!!!
Turns out we were flying out of the same airport (Tim and I had a layover in JFK), in the same terminal with the same airline–but different flights. That didn’t prove to be a big deal because the result was a successful airport surprise to my cousin followed by a hotel surprise to my family later that day!
The Romance is {Still} Alive
They say marriage changes things. Sometimes for the worst. People become complacent, yada yada. But so far for us, that isn’t the case. I know it’s still early on but I’m going to go ahead and savor and enjoy every one of our moments.
On Wednesday, Tim surprised me with the Hallmark Channel so I could get my Christmas movie fix. Then, I was awoken from the couch to this with country love songs playing in the background.
(Surprise) Hola
Thank you, Vets
I’d be remiss today not to post about the reason behind this blog–the amazing veteran who is my very-soon-to-be HUSBAND. Who works so hard to be sure the finances, household, and we are doing well.
For 8 years, he put our country first–he belonged to the U.S. Navy. Now, I sometimes feel like he puts me first, which is a totally new feeling because his commitment to the Navy didn’t really allow for that.
It makes me so happy to see him thriving in school, excited to be learning, and living a truly independent life. And yet, he and we owe all that’s been possible to the beautiful U.S. Navy. It made T a man–and a responsible one at that. And it’s afforded us opportunities,we would probably never have had in our 20s.
So, to T and to all those men and women who’ve sacrificed and dedicated any part of their lives to our great country and military– I thank you.
