I’m Good health, a happy home, a job I enjoy, loving and supportive family and friends… I have so much to be thankful for, always. But today I’m really grateful to finally be able to celebrate with T and that our brother and sister are here with us! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
A Very Marry November
“October extinguished itself in a rush of howling winds and driving rain and November arrived, cold as frozen iron, with hard frosts every morning and icy drafts that bit at exposed hands and faces.”
J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
I’m not a Harry Potter fan but that quote is actually what happened this past weekend. Halloween consisted of snow/hail, high winds and low temperatures. It was so much fun dressing up in a scary costume, though. Tim did a great job with my makeup and people were scared of us. Success!
November 1st was cold, as well, but we enjoyed some brunch, city time and hanging out with Tim’s brother, who was here for the weekend.
Speaking of November, I’ve always loved it. Because Thanksgiving. Because Black Friday. Because CHRISTMASTIME.
But this November is the most special. It is our WEDDING MONTH. Our one year engagiversary was yesterday and there are LESS than two weeks until our big day. Talk about excitement!
Happy Halloweekend
Halloween is here! We bought our costumes Sunday! T’s decorated our living room with Halloween lights and I surprised him with pumpkins a couple weeks ago.
We didn’t want to carve the pumpkins this year–we’ve done it and it’s messy. Plus, we live in a high rise (so city, I know) so it’s not like we can put them on display. We therefore decided to paint them Thursday night.
Last night I also took Tim out to dinner for his birthday to a steakhouse owned by a former NFL coach so he got to eat his favorite food while watching Thursday Night Football– win-win 🙂
Happy Birthday to the love of my life and to my dad–funny how two of my favorite and most important men share a birthday!
And to you all–Happy Halloweekend!!
#TBT: Halloween
I love holidays. Yes, my favorite is Christmas (as in I may or may not already have our Christmas pjs sitting in an online shopping cart) but Halloween is Tim’s favorite holiday. It comes as no surprise because it’s also his (and my dad’s!) birthday. So I try to make it extra special for him.
When I started dating Tim I promised him I wouldn’t jump right into the Christmas spirit before Halloween. I rightfully let Halloween happen 🙂 It makes October more fun and it makes Christmastime more exciting, partly due to the anticipation. Besides, fall is a favorite season of mine and Halloween falls right in the middle of the season. In my opinion, it’s the reason for fall season. (I consider Thanksgiving to be a winter holiday.)
The thing about long distance, though, is that you’re not always together for holidays–as in, we’ve never before been together on Halloween.
Sure, we’ve dressed up and carved pumpkins in early October 2011 before he moved to Hawaii.
I’ve sent him a festive care package when he was deployed.
And we’ve even gone pumpkin picking and decorated the house together in Hawaii.
But this year is thankfully different. We’ve gotten to go costume shopping (think tutus and blood for me) and paint pumpkins and we will be celebrating TOGETHER! They’re not done yet but here’s a preview:
Cheers to a Happy and haunted (mwahaha) Halloween!
Lessons of a Phoneless Gal
This gal has a (pretty and new) phone again. Prior to getting my iPhone 6 on Monday, however, I went nearly one month without a phone. It was surprisingly liberating and not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. It actually taught me a few lessons:
1. It is okay–and kind of nice–to be disconnected from the world sometimes.
2. Social media does not need to be updated or checked on every few minutes, hours–or even days.
3. Being “disconnected” allows you to be really present in the world–and that’s an amazing thing.
4. Not every piece of food or date night needs to be photographed. Just because I wasn’t documenting everything doesn’t mean it wasn’t happening or that I wasn’t enjoying life.
5. It’s not impossible to share a phone. Tim let me use his a lot and it was pretty doable and convenient.
6. Life without cell phones how we have them today (AKA mini computers) wouldn’t be the worst thing…
