Wedding Planning Logistics

Happy Wedding Wednesday!

Before we were engaged, Timmy and I would talk about the logistics of our wedding but now that we’re actually engaged, we have decisions to make!

Date?

This was literally the first thing (after being told “Congratulations!” of course) that we were asked when announcing our engagement. Timmy’s EAS is next summer so that throws a curveball into things. As of now, we’re thinking sometime in November 2014.

Location?

Timmy is from Michigan and I’m from NYC. We’ll be living together in Chicago at the time of our wedding. I have a close knit, large family back home and he has some family in NY so we are having the wedding in NY or NJ — and having engagement photos taken in Michigan and/or Chicago.

Planning while in a LDR?

We will have to divide some duties and work together on others. I’ll be in charge of the super girly things — my dress and the bridesmaids dresses. He will be in charge of his tux and the groomsmens tuxes. We will confer about the color scheme, save the dates, invitations, venue and decorations… He will hopefully be on leave during the holidays(!!!) so we can get some things done then.

Wedding Party?

We already know who our MOH (my cousin who’s like my sister) and Best Man (Tim’s younger brother) will be and actually celebrated with them in Vegas. My younger brother will also serve as my Man of Honor. Regarding the other members of the party, we will most likely make decisions during Timmy’s leave and ask them shortly afterwards.

Honeymoon?

We’d love to go to Bora Bora but we are open to other similar locations, as well. Our only requirement is that it be much more relaxing than not. As long as we’re together I know it’ll be blissful.

Aloha Friday Week #1

I haven’t really said much about my time in Hawaii since I came back to the mainland. So, in honor of my extended stay there and my nostalgia for the palm trees, Pacific Ocean and Aloha spirit during this cold weather, I’ve decided to have a weekly Aloha series this month! Each week, I’ll feature some of my Hawaii favorites.

This week’s favorites are BEACHES:

Lanikai Beach – For peacefulness and beautiful views

Bellows Field Beach Park – For waves, a bit more privacy, and beautiful views

Cockroach Cove – For hidden gems i.e. monk seal swimming near by, a cave, and cool surroundings

Hanauma Bay – For snorkeling and amazing historical background and views

Army Recreation Center on Pokai Bay – for calm, clear water with cartoon-esque backdrops

Happy 1st(s)!

I was thinking recently and lucky for me, the firsts of the past few months have been pretty darn amazing. August 1st was my first day post-bar exam. I spent it with my mom in Chicago shopping and viewing prospective apartments before heading back to NYC.

September 1st was spent with Timmy on the Big Island. We grabbed breakfast and then headed out for a roadtrip up the north coast, making stops at the beautiful Akaka Falls and the resort area near Kona, where we went to the beach and grabbed dinner and Starbucks. We ended the day with a sunset before heading to the airport.

October 1st was the day I received my bar exam results. Fortunately, I passed and it was a very happy day. Timmy bought me some presents and we went out for a celebratory meal, during which he was told he didn’t have to go into work so we got to spend the whole day together.

And today, November 1st I will be sworn in at my job. I won’t be divulging much about it on here for privacy and safety reasons but it’s pretty much a dream come true. Oh, and I {hopefully} fly out to Vegas to meet Tim, family and friends tonight!!

Here’s to hoping December 1st is just as amazing! P.S. Yesterday was my dad and Tim’s birthdays – HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY MEN!

Moving Day Letter to My First City Love

Dear New York City,

I am sincerely sorry but I’ve chosen another city over you.This isn’t the first time. But this time is different. You see, when I went away to Pennsylvania for college I figured I would be back to you in four years. When I studied abroad in Barcelona, I returned to you in a few months. When I left for Hawaii, I knew I had to come back to you to pack my belongings and say my “see you laters” if I was going to move. I guess, in a way, I did not really leave you those times. This time is not like those times, though. This time, I don’t have a projected end or return date. This time, I am headed to Chicago with a one-way ticket.

My new career calls. Life beckons. I am onward to new opportunities and adventures.

But please know that I will miss you. I will miss feeling as if I feel in a suburb of ~2.5 million diverse residents. I will miss your pizza. I will miss walks in [the neighborhood park]. I will miss the proximity of [the neighborhood mall]. I will miss driving (because I will not have a car in Chicago for a little while). I will miss having the ocean nearby. I will miss navigating your hectic but efficient subways (but definitely not the antics I have witnessed which are too absurd to put into this love letter). Heck, I’ll probably even miss waiting for the buses on my street. I will miss the hustle and bustle of downtown . . . and even “the City” (Manhattan). And I will really miss my family and friends. I will miss it all because it all reminds me of you. It all reminds me of home.

Brooklyn, you will always be my first home sweet home and I will always be proud to say I was born and raised within your geographical bounds. You are my first city love . . . I just need to be somewhere else. I want a city life without your city’s price. This is something I’ve always wanted to do – move to another city to pursue my career. I’m all for expanding my horizons.

That’s not to say I am not afraid, though. I am. I am afraid of missing you too much. Of feeling like I’ve traded you in and can’t get you back soon enough, if at all. Of not having the comfort of knowing my surroundings since birth. Of feeling alone and lonely – because I love you, and I love the people I leave behind who still call you home.

This choice has been a hard one but I believe I have made the right decision. Only time will tell. I just hope you’ll still love me. Oh, and don’t miss me too much – I’ll be back to visit before you know it.

Say It

I think it’s wise to tell you loved ones how you feel. How important they are to you. How much you love them. Or even just that you love them. In my family, we don’t hang up the phone, leave the house or go to sleep without saying “I love you.” Same goes with Timmy and me. It’s important to express yourself because life is a cluster of precious, fleeting moments. None of us (at least no one I know) can definitely tell the future. What we have and what we do know is now. And who we have are the people in our lives. I don’t ever want the people in my life not knowing how very much I care about them. There’d be no good in that.
