Life has been a roller coaster this year. Late last month, my family recently experienced a huge loss when we had to say goodbye to my little cousin Abby, who battled cancer for just under 1.5 years. And now here we are, expecting a new baby to be welcomed into the world and into our family at the end of this month… Ah, life.

Life is beautiful + bold, and tough + raw. 

It’s a journey through moments and milestones … 

Bloom and blossom whenever and wherever you can. 

Sprinkle kindness everywhere. 

Love always.

Self Care as a Mom

When I became a mom, my self care quickly fell to the waste-side. I was tired and overwhelmed but more than that, I wanted to spend as much time as possible with my new baby. I’m sure this is common among moms. 

In my 20 months of motherhood, I’ve gotten only three manicure/pedicures (one for a wedding in which I was a bridesmaid), one hair cut, and two hairstyles (one for that same wedding). I haven’t even used my spa day my husband gifted me last Mother’s Day…

It’s easy to get caught up taking care of my baby and prioritizing his needs while sometimes forgetting to take care of my own. Plus, as a full-time working (away from home) mom, taking even more time away to do things like a manicure just feels selfish — but not rightfully so. 

Over time, I’ve made it a point to do things here and there for my mental health (work from home days, vacations, eating healthy(ish), working out, dinners with a girlfriend(s), and writing). But I want to make indulging in beauty self care more of a priority, especially with another little one on the way. I’m sure I’ll really need it then. 

This past Saturday, I took the opportunity to indulge and went to Luxe & Co. in Babylon, New York for a wash and blowout. It is a chic and intimate blow dry bar that offers great service. 

Upon entering, the cute decor caught my eye. The space felt warm and inviting, and the women were welcoming. I was was offered water, coffee or tea, and my bag was put away for me. I opted for a mix between the Louis Vuitton and Dior blowouts — basically wavy with some volume, and was really happy with the result. 

 
It felt great to be pampered and relax for a bit prior to our Baby Sprinkle. My husband even commented that I seemed happier and more chipper when I got home, and I believe it. Simply put, I loved my blowout and the time for myself. Plus, it only took an hour to get it done and be back home. (The time felt even shorter because it was so easy to chat with my sweet stylist.)

As time goes on, I’m realizing more and more that taking care of myself allows me to be my best self and mom. If you’re in need of some self care, don’t think twice. (If you’re in the area, visit Luxe & Co.!)

Happy Love Week!

This weekend was a great one. We relaxed, celebrated my beautiful little cousin‘s 18th birthday and relaxed some more. Next weekend is a busy one with family coming in for my Baby Sprinkle so I was happy to get some relaxation in. 


I feel like I’d be remiss without mentioning that its Love Week… because Valentine’s Day, duh 😉

So in honor of that, I’m sharing some things I’m loving:

• A letter to moms, love Joanna Gaines. No explanation is needed as to why… I think it speaks for itself. 

• This olive oil hair serum. If any of you have complimented or wondered about my curls/waves, this is basically my go-to product. I just put some in my wet hair after washing it and voila! 

• Watching the Olympics — admittedly, I’ve only caught glimpses but Adam Rippon’s and Mirai Ngasu’s performances were so good!

• My new top from Pink Blush (pictured below). It is so soft and the sleeves each have a cute little stylish ruffle. It’s a perfect top for brunch …or any day outing, really. I plan to find a blue striped top the same pattern as the sleeves to put my boys in so we can be triplets (or quadruplets if I can find one for my husband, too). 

• As always, I’m loving my boys, family, friends, and readers + followers! I saved the best for last 🖤

As for Valentine’s Day, my hubs and I don’t really have anything planned… I am not sure if we’ll do anything besides love on our babe after work (#adulting). Do you have anything special planned?  xoxo



Good Mornings

Hope you all had a Happy Easter!

Our mornings have recently been starting very early (5:30AM). I think it would be easier if we slept straight through the night but alas, that is not the case yet. So, despite my being a morning person, I have recently been having a tough time getting out of bed, especially today. It always seems to be a little harder to do so the day after a holiday.

Regardless, I think starting the day off right is key:

Coffee.
I’m not sure how I gave up coffee for my whole pregnancy. I guess I was sleeping a lot more then so I can’t imagine what I’ll feel like next pregnancy. Coffee is key to getting my energy up. Most days, I have at least one cup.
A positive attitude.
I could whine and complain about how tired I am. OR I could be happy we leave early enough to catch the sunrise (albeit from our car). The latter sets the stage for a much better day. After all, waking up means being alive and that’s a blessing.

Well-rested sleep.
Just because I don’t get eight straight hours of sleep doesn’t mean the sleep I do get is bad. I try to get at least six hours of good rest. I still aim for eight but it’s difficult. Nonetheless, good sleep is important.
A good breakfast.
I don’t only been healthy or nutritious, haha. I also mean pretty breakfast that makes you excited that it’s morning time. Pictured below is cream of wheat with sprinkles, a childhood favorite of mine that continues to be a favorite. It looks magical to me.
Be excited about the day(s) prior, or to come.
It’s always nice to acknowledge the good in life. The good times, good people and good food. This past Easter weekend was full of so much love and joy. I told my husband waking up on Easter Sunday almost felt like waking up on Christmas (my favorite holiday) morning. We even made it to mass early! Being excited about life has a way of making early mornings less sluggish.

Despite the ugly, life is beautiful

This past weekend was just what the doctor ordered. Family time. A wedding to celebrate love and dance the night away with loved ones. A visit to a farm for pumpkin picking and hay riding. It was the perfect amount of carefree sprinkled in with love, laughter and good times. 

The past few weeks, on the other hand, have not been as carefree. They’ve been sort of a roller coaster. I’ve cried lots–many happy and sad tears–from going back to work to figuring out finances to some sad news. I’m an emotional person so it should come of no surprise. I’ve also found my mind wandering. 
Wondering what’s next. Thinking about the worst case scenario. Feeling stressed and broken and yet whole and the happiest I’ve ever been. Asking why and how and when. 
Why can’t everything just be great?
When will there be change? 
When will everything be better? 
When will the weight be lifted? 

I’m obviously very focused on the when–because knowing that tidbit would make me feel a whole lot better. But that’s not the reality of life, most of the time, anyway. 

Then, there’s politics and a presidential candidate who’s attempting to normalize discrimination and sexual assault. I can’t believe these are still issues in 2016. It’s scary. I digress. 

If I sit and really think about it, life is scary and hard. There can be moments of rejection. Violation. Abandonment. Bad news. Heartbreak. Now, don’t get me wrong–no one said life is easy. After all, what worthwhile things are? Life is messy and confusing. It can hurt and be a sad reality. 
But it can also be so amazingly wonderful and full of hope–that’s what looking at the world through a fresh set of eyes with a little one has reminded me. 
Despite the ugly, life is really, really beautiful. 
So don’t get stuck on the negatives. Learn from them. Embrace them and move on from them. Look for the positives. Reach for them and hold onto them. Because this life–it’s worth it all. The good, the bad, the ugly… Because the happy and beauty are just around the corner. And those are surely worth it.
